Traveling cheaply in Spain

Every traveler knows how easily the wallet becomes feather-light towards the end of the journey. But if you are careful, that is know how to spend wisely, you could well end up saving those precious dollars.

http://www.freebestwallpapers.info/bulkupload//13/2//Nature/Lamanche-Spain.jpg

Book cheap flights

You could fly to Spain and back for only $ 599. Take the time – and trouble – to visit relevant websites, especially Kayak.com and make comparisons. Most airlines offer cheaper deals for weekday flights. You would be well-advised to book very far in advance to get the best deals possible although some last-minute deals can be pretty good too. If you are travelling from the US, it might be cheaper to first travel to the UK. Booking your flight through reliable websites saves you some extra pennies as there is no agent (read middleman) involved. Some airlines known to provide the cheapest flights are: Thomas Airways, Ryanair, and Fly Thomas Cook.

Accommodation

You don’t want to spend all your money on accommodation while traveling, do you? The good news is that you don’t have to. You can rent holiday homes rather cheaply over the net. And if you are not fussy about living away from the city center you can actually strike a great deal. A holiday apartment in Catrojja near Valencia comes as cheaply as $ 326 for an entire week, to cite just one instance.

If you are traveling alone, however, try any of the youth hostels. They are dirt cheap, as low as $ 14 per day. Most of them are located in the city center. They are clean and offer the best facilities including guided tours, good wholesome food, etc. In other words, they offer good value for money. You can book online sans hassles.

Traveling around

Whenever possible try ‘car sharing’ as a means of travel. It is not only lighter on your pocket but also more eco-friendly. The more adventurous might want to hitchhike but it can turn out to be dangerous. Don’t lose your life (or worse) in order to save a few dollars.

Catch the bus as often as you can as bus travel turns out cheaper compared to the train. Buses in Spain also cover more routes than trains.

If you happen to be in one of the large cities like Madrid or Barcelona you can also try catching the underground metro trains, which are super fast and efficient. Operating the ticket machines is relatively easy and you can also change the display system into English.

Eating cheaply in Spain

You may not believe this but Spanish breakfasts are costlier compared to Spanish lunches. While ordering lunch, however, it is best not to go the a la carte way as this could turn out to be more expensive. Most restaurants offer a menu del dia or menu of the day that covers at least three courses.

Some people prefer to exist on ‘tapas’ alone. Tapas are small yet tasty portions that can be quite filling. Avoid the swanky restaurants; don’t be afraid of going into overcrowded tapas bars. Simply point to what you want. Some bars offer free tapas with a drink.

Live, travel, and eat cheaply in Spain. As you can see, it is not difficult!

Seems Like Everyone Is Offering You Travel Insurance?

These days it seems that many companies are offering us travel insurance. How do you know who to go with so many offers coming from so many different directions? You must always read the terms of your policy and know what you are covered for.

Buying Direct. Many companies advertise cheap travel insurance, but you need to make sure that you are getting value for money – cheap is not always good. You have a better chance of getting more value for your money if you are buying direct from an insurance company which is also an underwriter.

Credit Card. Many credit card companies also offer free travel insurance coverage. Don't assume you automatically have it when you travel. Most of them will require you to book the flights and other arrangements through your credit card. Expect a few more hurdles to jump through. Nothing is automatic and instant. Make sure you understand what it means and actually how much coverage you are getting. You will need to have a platinum or gold card at least. You might need to pay some extra fees to make sure you are completely covered.

Travel Agents. If you are talking face to face with a travel agent, at least you can ask a number of questions, but remember at the end of the day they are not the insurance company. They are not the underwriters. It is the underwriters who actually make the decision and the insurance company is the company that you will be dealing with. You might be able to complain to your travel agent and get something in return if you are not covered on what you expected. That will have nothing to do with your travel insurance.

Online. Many of the biggest and best insurance companies are the companies that are insuring you are online. There is no need for your travel agent to make the arrangements for you. When that is the case, they are just making commission, and probably just what they are doing -- getting online for you.

Your Bank. Many banks offer travel insurance and other packages with your account. You also need to remember that many of them are just brokers and this is just another arm of their business. When it comes to time for claiming, they are not the company making the decision. Just because they are your bank, and you have a lot of savings with them does not mean you are any better covered. Make sure you are actually getting a better deal – it could be just another way for them to be getting your money without any real benefit to you.

Special activities and special situations will require some real extra coverage, and will not be covered by the cheaper insurance policies. Reading the policy is absolutely crucial, and this is non-negotiable. Depending on where you are travelling you might want different levels of coverage. Understanding about where you are going, and what impact that will have on your level of coverage wanted, is so important. Reading a policy might take you a little time. You should not try to read it in one sitting or when you are in a travel agent's office. It is annoying to have to spend so much time reading such a boring document. Try to approach it as a challenge. Look through the document, mark out areas of concern, and prepare the most challenging questions for whoever is selling the policy to you. See if they can even answer themselves. This approach might make reading that policy a little more interesting.

When ladies go out for traveling they require to memorize a few tips and tricks before they step and it is highly important for their safety and to make their trip peaceful and enjoyable. http://www.mental-distortions.com/gallery-vector-illustrations/2006-vector-female_executive.gif
Save Yourself:

First of all you need to give priority to your protection, bad things happen everywhere and you need to be more conscious when you are in some other state. Take along those people whom you know in the another state, try to to know the places, situations and social behavior of the place so you don’t appear to be different from others. When you feel something is going wrong or you sense something bad, don’t wait the accident to happen, move, run, scream or do something accordingly but quickly.

Beware of Evil People:

The body language speaks a lot, people can easily get to know that you are from different place if you take it casually. Walk straight and your head up fronting people, don’t be nervous and be stern when you are communicating with people. If you feel something wrong around you, just run into a shop or a nearby indoor place, and tell the the receiver to help you because you are being followed by someone, if you are sure you are in problem ask the receiver to make a call to the police.

Be Careful at Night:

Get aware of the market place timings, seek for the rush hours or you will be left alone in the market among less people. In night clubs, beware of the hosts offering you drinks with punch, don’t accept till you are sure who is giving what. Many men take the advantage of the drunk ladies and offer them mixed drinks, in many cases women get to know they are raped when its already too late.

Dress Properly:

Wear what is less revealing, you may be in a place where the ladies with less clothes are thought in negative manner. Better take full clothes and look simple. You are representing from where you are, so be impressive and maintain standards when standing in group or among people who know you are a foreigner.

Among all, try to carry money in your hide spots, like in your socks and small pouch that is not in front and try to be alert when you are traveling in night time, robbers avail the best time to cut your purses and slip your money. Move and sit among people whom you think are kind, especially sit with women when outdoor.

Do not trust anyone

no one can be trusted but your self, there are many bad people out there that use any ways to hurt you. i hope this articles useful for you.

* how to travel by cargo ship

how to travel by cargo ship

Shipping corporations travel almost virtually everywhere. A question always mingles in my mind whether it is possible to travel by cargo ship or not. Following is what I found out when I tried to find the answer to my question.

It is quite eco-friendly to travel by slow boat then flying. But sometimes ocean voyage pollutes environment. Many people now days are choosing ocean voyage one way and they like to fly on return leg. Some cargo ships provide some sort of entertainment like bar, DVD library, small exercise room but passengers have to be on their own for their entertainment as for shipping corps, cargo is first priority then comes passenger.

cargo_ship In early 1900, travelers spend days on the ocean and arriving on their destinations was just like a trip.

CMA-CGM, Canada Maritime, and Bank Line are chief global shipping lines. These lines usually charge passengers and offer them guest cabins. Passengers have access to large of the part of the ship. Captains and his crew are more than happy to see passengers as they spend most of their time on water. Officer’s happy hour can also be offered to you as passenger.
Technorati Tags: captain and crew, cargo, entertainment in cago ship, travel by cargo, freighter ticket

This industry is very huge and one can visit many destination rather than just one. Hundreds of ships are being docked at New York, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Sydney everyday. It can be a wonderful journey as where ever the cargo is delivered you can go ashore; spend sometime before re-boarding. You can see the local cultures of many places.cargo-ship-barbecue
How to travel by cargo ship

Usually shipping companies adopt specific routes and you can just buy a ticket and go on board. You can enjoy that journey as long as your ticket allows you and then you have to off board the ship on chosen day. You can enjoy this journey by booking a freighter ticket. With freighter ticket you have those endless possibilities of off boarding where global commodities are shipped.

Generally people think that traveling on water will cost you much less than any other mode. It is a delusion. If you are traveling as a passenger then it will cost you more than average airfare to reach to your destination. There are of course ways like to work on boat which may decrease the cost. It can cost you around $80-140/day. Be careful about the other charges of room, meals or any other entertainment.
How It feels Inside a Cargo Ship

carog ship back sideIn ship, you will be surrounded by vessels and crew members. Overgenerous events may occur during meal times that depend on the chef. Traveling with French companies is a better choice as they offer good quality meals and table wines that is good to know if you are fond of eating delicious food. You can spend all the day according to your wish except meals times. You can plan your day on the ship. You can spend time while talking to captain about navigation or can have the tour with the head mechanic. You can find it sometimes boring, as you have to spend all your voyage days on the ship. But you can make it enjoyable by meeting your co-passenger before evening meal and discussing all your day’s activity.

You can have the feeling of cabin fever after spending a week on the ship, but slow tempo of life can be welcomed and pleasant. If you are planning to travel by cargo ship, plan it well. Search on the internet about ticket rates, roots adopted and other activities offered by the shipping company. Email to freighter companies and ask about fares and the services they provide to passengers. You can find information about them in Yellow Pages.

buy travel insurance while traveling to another country

Can i buy travel insurance while i am travelling in another Country ?

several minutes ago, there is a visitor of kicktheworld asking question like that and we try to give you information to that question. so we start browsing through search engine try finding an informative articles for you, and we found it on yahoo answer.

question :
Can i buy travel insurance while i am travelling in another Country?
I am traveling from central asia. And now i am currently in Kuala lumpur, Malaysia. And i am thinking about travelling to few other countries. And then, may be a bit late, now i am thinking about travel insurance. I have read from internet there are annual international insurances. But there are too many relevant or not-relevant information, and i have not enough time to read them in detail. If you have any practical suggestion, recommendation that will be very helpful.
Thank you very much.

answer :
1. Yes, several companies offer on line travel insurance, but you will have to print off your cover from wherever you are, and not all internet cafes will let you download/print attachments. Regret you will have to complete the forms fully - whether you think the info is relevant or not.

2. The link below has travel medical plans available to travelers from any country. There are a few choices so, if you don't have that much time, I would suggest you to call for information. If you are taking multiple trips over the year, here is the link to quote & compare the annual multi-trip plans.

and here it is the use of buying travel insurance by Bill Mason

Why Buy Travel Insurance?

When you choose to travel, you take the risk of lost luggage, flight cancellations, reservation cancellations, theft and many other situations which may cause anxiety. Planning a vacation is stressful enough without having to worry about something going horribly wrong. Purchasing travel insurance will ensure that you are compensated if anything goes wrong on your trip. When trying to determine whether or not to purchase travel insurance, keep in mind the points listed below which may make your decision much easier.

Many forms of travel insurance will cover you in the following areas:

  • Medical Emergencies – Travel insurance will provide you with financial help should you encounter a medical emergency while traveling. If you become ill or are injured while on vacation, your travel insurance will provide you coverage in both situations.
  • Cancellations or Delays – If for any reason (beyond your control) your trip is cancelled or delayed your travel insurance will provide you with financial coverage. This includes coverage if your airline goes bankrupt or out of service. Your travel insurance will either compensate you for the money you lost or provide you with new means of transportation. .
  • Theft – If anything belonging to you is stolen while you are on vacation, your travel insurance will provide you with financial assistance to replace the items which were stolen. .
  • Damage or Loss of Personal Property – This is likely to happen while on vacation. If your luggage is lost or damaged while on vacation, your travel insurance will definitely cover at least some percentage of the property that is missing. Depending on the insurance plan, it may financially cover all the items that are missing. .
  • Lost Passport – If you lose your passport or it is stolen while you are on vacation, travel insurance will provide you with the means to get a temporary one. Your travel insurance company will inform you on how to get in contact with your country embassy so that you can arrange to receive a temporary passport.

Depending on the insurance plan you choose, you may be fully or partially covered in the areas listed above. Choose your policy according to what you think the possibility will be that you will require the assistance on your trip.

For many vacationers, travel insurance eliminates any worry that an unforeseen circumstance may arise in which you do not have the money or means to take care of.

Travel insurance helps you relax and enjoy your trip without agonizing over things that may or may not go wrong. Relaxing and enjoying? Isn’t that why you planned the vacation in the first place?

we hope this articles useful for you so you can enjoying your traveling. and if you have an experience about buying travel insurance, you can share your experience on this blog.

5 scariest hotels in the world

here we give you 5 list of world scariest hotels, so be careful when you're choose the hotel to stay while you're do traveling. don't make your holiday become nightmare.

1. Carter Hotel
On a more realistic side of scary, the Carter Hotel in Manhattan is, according to the official hotel reviews, a hotel for the budget traveler. After a more thorough search, one notices that the Carter Hotel is famous for being the dirtiest hotel in America for the past 3 years. For around 200$, you can choose to stay in any of the 700 rooms, packed with moldy patches, terrible plumbing and bugs dead or alive, a complementary gift from the staff. Probably one of the scariest things you can find in a hotel room, as reported by the New York Post, is a woman’s body found in one of the rooms of Carter hotel in Augus

2. Roosevelt Hotel
Located in Hollywood, the Roosevelt Hotel is mainly famous for being home for 2 years to Marilyn Monroe before she started her modeling career. The 12-story Spanish style hotel opened in 1927, has 302 rooms and suites and cost $2.5 million to make. Miss Monroe stayed in room 1200, which overlooked the pool side. The huge mirror that hanged in her room is now in the lobby, many guests believing it is haunted by her spirit. Some guests even say they have seen her dancing in the hotel’s ballroom.

3. The Ocean Edge Resort & Club
The Ocean Edge Resort & Club in Cape Cod, Massachusetts is one of the few hotels not afraid to admit about its inhabitant ghosts. Even more, when you choose the “Spooky Mansion” package, they’ll even throw in the midnight cup of coffee and a flashlight to help you look for the ghost. And, if Addie doesn’t show, you’ll have plenty of entertainment opportunities to keep you

occupied.

4. Stanley Hotel
For a combination of remote, refreshing and scary, choose the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. The 138-room hotel located near the Rocky Mountain National Park is the one that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining. Built in 1909 by Freelan O. Stanley, the hotel is still home to the original owner. Stanley’s ghost can often be seen in the lobby or pool room, while others guests complain about hearing children playing in the hallway at night.

5. The Hotel del Coronado in San Diego
California is considered by many one of America’s most beautiful resorts. However, the hotel’s legend about a 24-year old gold digger that was found dead in 1892 is one of the odd attractions. Apart from the usual activities of ghost-haunting (door slamming or hearing voices), the ghost also invades your bed. She leaves shapes on one’s pillow, as if her head was resting there.

the few of the hotel above seems didn't looks scary at all, but watch out readers, maybe the ghost are waiting you :D

traveling abroad with your iphone

here we gave you new travel tips with your iphone, you feel confuse about how your iphone will be in another country, does it support the network or everthing else? don't worry, the article below will help you and your cool iphone :D

Q : What do I need to do to use my iPhone abroad?

A : Before you go, visit AT&T’s Web site (www.att.com/wirelessinternational) to double-check that your iPhone will be able to find a compatible carrier in the specific countries you plan to visit. If you click the Travel Guide link on the page, the site walks you through a three-step process for using wireless phones overseas.

In the first step, you click on the countries on your itinerary. Once you have your list of destinations, the second screen asks you to select the make and model of your wireless handset.

The site then tells you what international carriers support your phone and what services are offered. This summary page also lists the cost for a minute for voice calls in the countries you plan to visit. Rates for sending and receiving data (like e-mail messages and Web pages) and short text messages on your iPhone are also listed.

Standard international calling rates can be quite expensive — $1.29 a minute when you are in Britain, for example — but you can often get discounts on rates for many countries if you sign up for one of AT&T’s international packages. Its World Traveler package, which costs about $6 a month, lowers the cost of a call in Britain to 99 cents a minute.

International data rates for downloading e-mail can be exorbitant, so AT&T also offers Data Global plans. Prices start at about $25 for 20 megabytes of data.

Your iPhone will probably find a European network to use all on its own when you get there, but the prices for voice and data will be high. AT&T advises contacting the company in a retail store or at 800-331-0500 to activate the international roaming function and a plan for your phone before you take off.

Once you get to Europe, you may want to adjust your iPhone’s settings to avoid surprisingly large bills. Turn off the data-roaming feature by going into the Settings area, into General to Network and flipping Data Roaming to off. Turn off the setting that automatically checks for new e-mail as well. And use the iPhone’s Wi-Fi connection for mail and Web viewing as much as possible to keep your data usage off the wireless carrier’s network.

Questions about computer-based technology may be sent to QandA@nytimes.com. This weekly column will address questions of general interest, but e-mail and letters cannot be answered individually.

the definition of traveling

Traveling is often defined as going from one place to another. To journey.

Who was the first tourist? Who wrote the first travel piece? My guess is that whoever took those first steps away from the safety of a cave or tree and return to tell about was the the first traveler and travel guide.

After many decades of traveling about I want to share my experiences and knowledge, especially in the areas of drawing and photography. As an Army Brat I had the pleasure to travel during most of my growing up years. I saw Iceland, Germany, Mexico, Guam, Hawaii and a lot of the United States. As an adult I've seen Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, Panama, Venezuela, France, England, Spain, Italy, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, South African and St. Pierre et Michelon.

Enjoy the travel slide shows, travel photography and travel illustrations. I'll even help you out with with ideas to make your photos better and give you ideas for planning unusual trips. Heck, I'll even suggest some places to stay and eat. I want to hear from you as well, especially from those artists in the audience.

the art of traveling

we're not talk about movie titled "art of travel", but we will talk about how to enjoy our traveling, and you can also find some tips travel on this blog.

for the beginning of this session, i wanna give you someone experience in traveling, he seems enjoying his travel very much so he make a post about art of traveling. here it is, his name is Kattman-du, he is the owner of www.travelsketcher.blogspot.com. so lets see his sotry :

What is the Art of Travel?

Hello There,
My name is Tony. After many years of traveling and lugging a camera around my neck and hanging from my shoulders I decided to give the sketchpad a try. I began in 1993 on my honeymoon to Barrancas de Cobre with my wife Joan. The barrancas, also known as Copper Canyon, are in Mexico, in the state of Chihuahua.

Please remember, all images are © Anthony Galván III. Any use requires written permission.

For the occasion I had received a diary. I took along some color pencils and started out the trip with this page.

The honeymoon started out with a bad note. The Chihuahua Airline airplane was grounded and of course, there were not other flights out until the next day.

I manged to find an AeroMexico flight that was leaving later in the evening and that's the way it was for us.

Our time in the canyon was full of adventure, just look at the transportation and the hotel.

And so went our travels and how my journals and sketches began. It had been decades since I'd drawn anything and I was having fun.

A few years later we made a trip out east to Washington, DC. Again, I took the diary along; but this time I had some felt tip pens.

This was getting to be fun. The next big trip was to Africa. And, even though I carried close to 30 pounds of camera gear and 200 rolls of film some of our favorite memories are relived with my sketches, made while riding a bus across Zambia or waiting in the bush for our companions to catch up with us.

A few more trips came and went. One to Paris and London for my wife, Joan's 50th birthday. Despite the many photos I took it was the pencil and ink sketches that seem to bring back the memories.

And then I tried ink and really surprised myself! The Seine, department storefront, Norte Dame on Christmas Eve and the front of our hotel, le Hotel Angleterre on Rue Jacob. Color pencil

You can see the changes in my drawing style change, especially after I decided to go back to drawing and painting. Our last trip to Europe was to Italy to witness the transit of Venus across the face of the sun. I had fun here with watercolor, color pencil and felt tip pen.

As you can see I started out just doing this for fun and now it's part of every trip my wife and I take. Just a little bit of art training helps if you want to work in watercolor or color pencil.

Let me know what you think. I will begin this blog in earnest with some detailed pieces and commentary of the location. Some of these observations are over thirty years old!

So, the Art of Travel is twofold, the art you create on your travels and the art of traveling; comfortably, safely and always with a hint of the unknown or surprise around the corner.

This is what I will talk about. But, I will also talk about traveling with a digital camera. Why? Because the digital camera has brought about its own perils on the road and most people don't become aware of them until it's too late.

If you wish to see photos from some of these trips visit http://www.dosgatos.com/travel or go to these specific pages:

Africa - this was a total solar eclipse trip
Italy - this was the transit of Venus trip
Paris & London - this was a 50th birthday trip

Other trips that will follow will include Yellowstone National Park, Death Valley and Copper Canyon.
Let me hear from you.

okay, after read his experience we know the definition of art of travel, and we got the information how to enjoy our traveling, if this articles useful for you, please add Mr. Kattman-du on your blogroll.
